JOB PURPOSE


The Medical Head-BU is accountable for leading the medical affairs function within their global business unit (BU) across the country. This will include:


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Strategy: Contributes to the global BU product and life cycle strategy; develops local medical plans in line with global product and life cycle strategy; identifies local unmet needs and shares them with Global BU Medical Head.
Execution: Oversees execution of global BU product and life cycle strategy in the country (local medical plans including data generation, scientific exchange, stakeholder engagement, etc.); identifies potential risks and prepares preventive actions.
Alignment/Leadership: Leads and manages local teams; aligns local teams with global strategies and tactics, and local BU teams.


KEY RESULTS/ACCOUNTABILITIES


Medical affairs leadership within the BU
Lead recruitment and development of a high calibre Medical Affairs Team in the BU establishing a culture of collaboration, networking and immediacy of support within the team to ensure efficient and dynamic ways of working within the BU and with other relevant internal colleagues eg compliance, regulatory and PV.
Lead the BU Medical Affairs Team to ensure high quality delivery to internal and external customers.
Ensures proactive and high quality input by the BU Medical Affairs Team into Brand Plans and Strategic Plans.
Lead by example through setting and monitoring robust objectives and establishing personal development plans for BU members
Bring to life a proactive development and retention strategy for the BU and across the other BUs within the scope of the company career and talent development policy.


Lead the local evidence generation strategy, plan and execution
Lead the gap analysis and development of innovative approaches to the Evidence Generation and Clinical Plans to meet the needs of the local and global BU including new study designs and alternative methodologies.
Support the implementation of the clinical programme via the CSU.


External Interactions
Maintains proactive and broad relationships with key contacts in the country healthcare as part of a co-ordinated stakeholder plan in order to secure involvement in stakeholder discussions and position Sanofi within key healthcare initiatives.
Represent Sanofi customer facing functions in clinical interactions with senior external stakeholders such as HCPs, ORDMs and patients.


Internal Interactions
Provide the BU with medical opinion in order to develop marketing plans and commercialise these putting the needs of the patient at the centre.
Ensure appropriate resource (eg signatories, technical check) is in place, co-ordinated and developed within the medical affairs team to complete the required review and approval of promotional and non-promotional activities to the level defined and validated by the Head of Customer Facing Compliance
Provide prioritised medical input as requested to take accountability for medically led activities eg ad boards, KOL engagement, patient engagements in line with global and local policies and procedures
Lead the Medical Information service with relevant medical expertise for the BU in relation to defined prescription medicines in order that customer queries, internal and external, can be answered accurately and promptly.
Develop relationships with internal key contacts (other affiliates, Region, Global, International Medical Affairs and R&D) in order to share best practice; take part in cross-functional transformation programmes; obtain acceptance of and approval of country projects; and influence global Sanofi medical strategy.
Support the medical review of suspected adverse reaction reports associated with prescription medicines in conjunction with the Pharmacovigilance Department
Provide medical opinion to Regulatory Affairs so that regulatory strategies can be developed.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:


Preferably a clinical degree as MD,
Scientific degree as PhD, PharmD or equivalent is pre-condition
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs Leadership role in the Pharmaceutical Industry, preferably in both in global and local positions
Proven ability to develop internal as well as external relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and relevant Associations
Strong analytical skills necessary to interpret clinical data, as well as strategic thinking to lead the future success of key categories and brands.
Experience in health authority interactions, coupled with knowledge of external medical and pharmaceutical industry topics impacting the registration, marketing and support of health care solutions with focus on overall strategy
